About this deal

The book certainly delivers on the sweeping high fantasy front, but what surprised me were the cozy elements that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Lam crafts a dynamic world of mystery and magic populated by diverse characters with well-shaded backstories and conflicting motivations that add a layer of depth to this sophisticated fantasy. As if the mythology of the Dragon world and the side stories weren't enough, the author throws in a heist, one of my absolute favourite things in any book.

Dragonfall: A MAGICAL SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER! (The Dragon

Lam’s short fiction and essays have appeared in anthologies such as Nasty Women, Solaris Rising 3, Cranky Ladies of History, Scotland in Space, and more. The narrative style might also be the reason why I found the dragon's chapters so much more fun to read than the human's, unlike other reviewers. Dragonfall is a brilliant, beautifully paced page turner of a novel, up there with the best fantasy and one of my favorite reads of the year so far. Disguised as a human, Everen soon learns that to regain his true power and form and fulfil his destiny, he only needs to convince one little thief to trust him enough to bond completely–body, mind, and soul—and then kill them. However, the side characters are equally excellent, and I hope we get to see more of them as the series progresses. Dragonfall ended by giving me a decent conclusion for the immediate events that happened but not the ongoing goals/quests of the characters. It is a place of sand and ghosts, a world that almost ran out of water, and the people who died or were lost in attempts to escape the dying planet. I loved how it mirrored the prophetic nature of dragon kind in this book and came to such an emotional close at the end.The dragon's morals and aspirations left me shaking and the bond between Everen and Arcady was phenomenal. The book wraps up nicely, finishing this part of story and leaving you wanting more now without cliffhangers. The book is full of dragons, artefacts, many different manners of magic, friendship, growth, betrayal and so much more.

Dragonfall by L. R. Lam: 9780756418410 | PenguinRandomHouse

It's full of betrayal, revenge, and so much love, and it's epic with twists and turns that will make you want to fling things! The series takes place in the 3rd millennium and concerns a (presumably British) family made up of Tim, Sanchez, Old Elias and Big Mother, traveling in the eponymous spaceship, the Dragonfall 5. Cassia is my third favorite because she is a dragon and a lot of her stuff has to do with Everen as well.Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read one of my most anticipated reads of the year! Such a promising start to a series, with so many opportunities to character developement, expanding the world.
